last night. really shortly after 9:00 p.m. was when dzhokhar tsarnaev was taken into custody and the result was quite extraordinary. people were cheering in the streets. i think probably cheers all over this nation for the end of this really a reign of terror for some 24 hours for the city of boston and its suburbs. but also, really since monday. let's go right now and talk about what the investigators are going to do as they get to the bottom of everything. the next move with mark rossini, he helped create the national counterterrorism center. thank you for joining me all the way from paris. we appreciate that. let's talk about what will happen with dzhokhar tsarnaev, now going to be questioned by the elite 450i value detainee interrogation group made up of a bunch of high-ranking officials, fbi, cia, defense department. beyond the obvious of why, mark, what are the first questions they will ask him? >> well, beyond the why, of course, is who directed you? did you do this upper the direction of a foreign government or foreign service group and then the questions will go from
guys are brothers. the man at large is dzhokhar tsarna, tsarnaev and looking to confirm his origin. >> according to mike barnicle and "the boston globe" reporting one of the suspects has lived here for some time, receiving some sort of high school scholarship. >> yeah. the city of cambridge awards a scholarship $2,500 to cambridge high school seniors and others who want to pursue higher education. according to the globe, the man at large, the 19-year-old in the white hat, in 2011, so just two years ago, was the recipient of one of these scholarships. that indicates he has lived in the cambridge area for some time. >> another piece of information that we have picked up over the hours here is that at some time, any time now, the police in boston will be conducting a controlled detonation at the area of calm in charles gate. this is according to their twitter site. i guess if anybody in the area hears something, not to be upset by it because this is a controlled detonation probably, as pete williams was telling us, probably one of the explosives or grenades that were thrown out of the
that dzhokhar tsarnaev, the one everybody is looking for, might be just a few blocks down here at an office complex. a security sensor had been -- had tipped off that there was, authorities, there was some intrusion that led everybody to think he was there. cars were zooming down here with screaming lights, and that turned out to be a wash. so i think that's just another reminder of how cautious we have to be until we know for sure where things stand. what we do know is he's on the loose. we do know -- we don't know -- there's no confidence that they know where he is and whether or not he has any accomplices. that may be an open question at this point. and probably the biggest open question of all is whether there are any more explosive devices, any ieds out there that he's left to maim and kill people that they don't know about. one was found in boston earlier today, and that may be the scariest singleknow, though, th police have been going door-to-door in this area all day. how far along do you think they are in securing the area? because as i understand it, at 12:30 when governor deval p
threat. >> let me ask you some particulars about the surviving suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev, who is now in the hospital. appare apparently he has a wound to the throat. did he try to commit suicide? >> i don't know the answer to that. >> do you know when doctors are saying he might actually be able to communicate? is there a real question about whether he'll be able to speak? >> i don't know those answers, david. i do know that he is in serious condition, but he's stable. and there are investigators prepared to interview him when he's able to be interviewed. >> the question about him coming onto the radar of the fbi two years ago, he was interviewed, he was tracked at the request of the russians, according to federal officials. that's questions now, for you and authorities in massachusetts, have to raise some concerns whether something was missed here. >> well, sure. there's a whole process here, and i think it was his brother, by the way, who was questioned by the fbi -- >> yes, forgive me, correct. >> a whole host of questions, david, that you have, that i have, more to the point that
